Book 32, Question 79
Can the warmth of a nest decide whether hatchlings are males or females?
In many turtles and crocodiles, the temperature of the nest helps decide whether a hatchling will be male or female.
In many turtles, warmer nests produce more females and cooler nests produce more males. Crocodiles and some other reptiles do it differently. Scientists measure nest temperatures to learn how this works and to keep nest areas healthy.
