Book 28, Question 109
How does a modern hockey stick act like a spring?
Modern hockey sticks are made of layers of carbon fiber and other materials.
When a player leans on the stick during a slap shot, the shaft bends and stores energy like a spring. Then it snaps straight just before the puck leaves. This extra whip adds speed. Sticks come in different stiffness levels to match a player's size and strength.
