How does a modern hockey stick act like a spring?
Modern hockey sticks are made of layers of carbon fiber and other materials. When a player leans on the stick during a slap shot, the shaft bends and stores energy like a spring. Then it snaps straight just before the puck leaves. This extra whip adds speed. Sticks come in different stiffness levels to match a player's size and strength.

Intro
Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. How does a modern hockey stick act like a spring?
The Big Idea
A slap shot sends the puck flying! The stick bends like a spring. Let's see how.
Layers
Step one: Layers. Modern hockey sticks are made of layers of carbon fiber and other materials. When a player leans on the stick during a slap shot, the shaft bends and stores energy like a spring.
Snap!
Step two: Snap!. Then the stick snaps straight just before the puck leaves. This extra whip adds speed to the shot.
Stiffness
Step three: Stiffness. Sticks come in different stiffness levels. They're matched to a player's size and strength.
A Closer Look
Let's take a closer look! Push down. Store energy. Release. Flies fast.
Quick Facts
Quick facts! A strong slap shot can fire a puck over 100 miles per hour. Sticks bend like springs. Snap adds speed. Stiffness matches players.
Think Like a Scientist
Now, think like a scientist! Hold a wooden ruler against a table edge. Bend it gently. Release it. Watch it snap back. Imagine it hitting a puck!
Outro
Modern hockey sticks bend during a slap shot, storing energy like a spring, then snap straight just before the puck leaves, adding extra speed. Sticks come in different stiffness levels to match each player. The best sticks feel just right in the hands of each player, so they can shoot fast and stay in control every time. Science is amazing!
