Book 28, Question 108

How have tennis rackets changed?

Old rackets were made of wood, with small heads and heavy frames.

In the 1970s and 80s, metal and then graphite and other materials made rackets lighter, stiffer, and bigger. A bigger head means a larger sweet spot, and a lighter frame can swing faster. Today, players can hit with more power and spin than before. Rules limit racket sizes to keep the game fair.
