Intro

Hi! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. How do you think like a detective?

The Big Idea

A detective doesn't guess. A detective follows a method! A method is a set of steps that keeps your why honest. Scientists use it on dinosaurs, on dirt, and even on dinner leftovers!

Step 1

Step 1: gather more than one clue, and keep the place with the object. One clue can fool you. So look for several, like footprints, tools, and bones. And always write down where each clue was found.

Step 2

Step 2: measure it, and date the page. Use a ruler to measure. Numbers are much clearer than 'kind of big.' Then write the date, so you know when you looked.

Step 3

Step 3: share it, and change your mind if the clues say so. Show a friend, and let them poke holes in your idea. That makes it stronger! And if new clues say you were wrong, that's great. Science gets better that way.

A Closer Look

Here are the five detective moves. One, gather clues. Two, keep the place. Three, measure and date. Four, share it. And five, revise, which means change your mind if you need to.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! The same five moves work on dinosaurs, dirt, and dinner leftovers. You don't need a lab coat. A notebook and fair questions are enough to start. Museums and parks are great practice rooms for young detectives. Next up: clocks and your time!

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Ask: which of the five moves do you skip most often? And ask: what would change if you added it? Try it at home: pick a mystery, like why the puddle is gone. Then use the five moves to solve it!
