Intro

Hi! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why is a notebook a tool?

The Big Idea

Memory fades, but ink stays! A notebook holds the place, the date, a sketch, and the question you had at that very minute. That makes it a real science tool, just like a magnifying glass. Scientists never go on an expedition without one.

Step 1

Step 1: date the page, and write where you are. Put today's date at the top, so you know when you saw something. Then write the place, like backyard, or riverbank, so you can find it again. A note with no date and no place is hard to use.

Step 2

Step 2: sketch or list what you see. Draw a quick picture of the leaf, the rock, or the bug. It doesn't have to be pretty! A list of words works, too. You can add measurements, like how long the leaf is, or how many petals it has.

Step 3

Step 3: add your question, and leave space for later. Write the why that popped into your head, right then. Then leave empty room, so future you can add answers! Old pages are a treasure map for new questions.

A Closer Look

Let's look at a page of notes. At the top is the date. Next comes the place. Then a quick sketch, with a few labels. And at the bottom, an open question, for later.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! A cheap pad can outlast a fancy gadget battery. Later, you can test what the old you wrote down. Was your guess right? If it isn't written down, it's only a rumor. A kitchen notepad counts. Science tools can be ordinary! Even a napkin has saved a great idea.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Ask: what would you lose if you only took a photo? And ask: why date the page? Try it at home: start a nature notebook. Write today's date, the place, and one thing you noticed. Then add one question you still have.

Outro

A notebook keeps your discoveries safe, and it's a tool anyone can use! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
