Intro

Hi! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why do kids' questions still matter?

The Big Idea

Every scientist started out as a kid with a question. A fresh why can spot a hole that grown-ups walked right past! Science starts as a question, not a degree.

Step 1

Step 1: ask the question, and write it down plainly. Say your why out loud, like, why do stars twinkle? Then write it in plain words, so you won't forget it.

Step 2

Step 2: look for one clue. Big questions can be checked in small pieces. Pick one clue to look for. A magnifying glass, a book, or careful watching can help.

Step 3

Step 3: ask a grown-up or a museum, and keep what is still open. Librarians, teachers, and museum experts love good questions. If nobody knows yet, keep it in a folder, and keep wondering!

A Closer Look

Let's follow one kid's question. It starts in a notebook, as a kid question. Then it goes to the museum desk, where an expert can help. If no one knows yet, it goes through the open door, to be answered someday!

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Whole studies have begun with a child's, but why? New eyes are not stuck on last year's answer. Writing a question down is the very first tool. Take every question seriously, and look it up together.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Ask: what question from this book is still open for you? And ask: who could help you test it? Try it at home: write down one big why, on paper. Put it somewhere safe, and come back to it next week.
