How can a snake squeeze through tiny gaps?

What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. How can a snake squeeze through tiny gaps?

The Big Idea

Snakes can slip through tiny cracks! It's like magic! How do they squeeze through?

No Breastbone

Step one: No Breastbone. A snake's body is flexible. It has no breastbone and a long spine with many joints, so it can bend and fold in tight spaces.

Head First

Step two: Head First. If its head can fit, the body can usually follow. A snake's skull is narrow and smooth for slipping through.

Moving Ribs

Step three: Moving Ribs. The ribs move apart or together as needed. That's why snakes can slip through narrow cracks. If a snake gets into your home, tell a grown-up and stay back.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! Many joints. Leads the way. Move freely. More bending.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! A snake's skull is built narrow and smooth for slipping through. Snake spines have many joints. Snakes have no breastbone. If a snake is inside, tell a grown-up.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Roll a sheet of paper into a curved tube. Push a bendy pipe cleaner through. Then try pushing a pencil. Which one bends to fit? Snakes are like the pipe cleaner.

Outro

A snake squeezes through tiny gaps because it has no breastbone, a spine with many joints, and ribs that move as needed. If its narrow head fits, the body usually follows. If one gets inside, tell a grown-up. Science is amazing! Keep wondering and keep exploring! Share what you learned with someone at home, and see what they think!
