Why are tortoises so slow?

What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why are tortoises so slow?

The Big Idea

Tortoises take their time. Step... by... step. Why are tortoises so slow?

Heavy Shell

Step one: Heavy Shell. A tortoise carries a heavy shell. Its legs are short and sturdy like pillars, built for strength, not speed.

No Need to Hurry

Step two: No Need to Hurry. Tortoises eat plants, which don't run away. Their shell protects them from most danger, so they have no need to hurry. When trouble comes, they simply pull in and wait.

Saving Energy

Step three: Saving Energy. Taking it slow also saves energy. A tortoise can live a very long life, sometimes more than a hundred years.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! Heavy. Like pillars. Easy to catch. Saved.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Slow and steady is a good plan for a tortoise. Tortoises eat plants. Shells protect them. Some tortoises live over a hundred years.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Put a heavy book in a backpack. Walk across the room wearing it. Then walk without it. Feel how weight slows you down. Imagine carrying a shell every day!
