Book 29, Question 83 · Video
What is drip irrigation?
Drip irrigation uses tubes with tiny holes or emitters that release water slowly right at the roots. Very little water is lost to evaporation or splashing. It can use half as much water as sprinklers, and keeps leaves dry, which helps prevent disease. Gardeners connect it to a timer. You can make a simple drip with a bottle that has a small hole in the cap.

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. What is drip irrigation?
The Big Idea
Some gardens get water one drop at a time! It's called drip irrigation. How does it work?
Tiny Holes
Step one: Tiny Holes. Drip irrigation uses tubes with tiny holes, called emitters, that release water slowly right at the roots. Very little water is lost to evaporation or splashing.
Saving Water
Step two: Saving Water. It can use about half as much water as sprinklers. It also keeps leaves dry, which helps prevent disease.
Simple Setups
Step three: Simple Setups. Gardeners often connect drip lines to a timer. You can even make a simple drip with a bottle that has a small hole in its cap.
A Closer Look
Let's take a closer look! Carry water. Drip slowly. Turns it on. Get every drop.
Quick Facts
Quick facts! Drip irrigation was developed in dry countries to save water. Uses half the water. Keeps leaves dry. Timers do the work.
Think Like a Scientist
Now, think like a scientist! Ask a grown-up to poke a small hole in a bottle cap. Fill the bottle with water. Screw the cap on tight. Turn it upside down next to a plant. Watch it drip!
Outro
Drip irrigation uses tubes with tiny emitters that release water slowly right at the roots, so little is lost. It can use about half the water of sprinklers and keeps leaves dry, and you can make a simple one from a bottle. Science is amazing! Remember, every big discovery starts with a small question. Keep looking, keep learning, and keep asking why! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
