Most balls are round. But some are pointy ovals! Why the different shapes?

Round Balls

Step one: Round Balls. Round balls roll and bounce in predictable ways. That suits soccer, basketball, and baseball.

Pointed Ovals

Step two: Pointed Ovals. Pointed ovals, like those used in rugby and American football, can be thrown in a spiral. They can also be carried tightly under one arm.

Crazy Bounces

Step three: Crazy Bounces. Oval balls bounce in unpredictable ways, which adds fun to the game. Each ball shape is a good match for the way the sport is played.
