Book 28, Question 15 · Video
How do soccer goalies guess where a penalty kick will go?
A penalty kick may reach the goal in about a third of a second. Human reaction time to see and respond is about 0.2 seconds, so waiting until the ball is kicked is often too late. Goalies study the kicker's body, run-up, and which foot they plant. Then they guess a side and dive early. Practice teaches them clues.
