What do architects and engineers each do?

What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. What do architects and engineers each do?

The Big Idea

It takes a big team to make a building. Architects and engineers have different jobs. Let's meet them!

Architects

Step one: Architects. An architect designs how a building looks and works. They decide where rooms, windows, and doors go, and how people will move through the space.

Engineers

Step two: Engineers. Structural engineers figure out how strong the beams and columns must be. Other engineers plan the heating, cooling, electricity, and water.

Builders

Step three: Builders. Builders put the plan into action. Together, they make a building that is useful, beautiful, and safe.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! The architect designs it. The engineer makes it strong. Systems engineers add power and water. Builders build it.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Many buildings need hundreds of drawings before work begins. Engineers use lots of math. Computers help design. Everyone works together.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Design a treehouse. First, draw it like an architect, with rooms and windows. Then think like an engineer. List what you would check to make it strong and safe. Share your design.

Outro

Architects design how a building looks and works, structural engineers make sure it is strong, other engineers plan heating, power, and water, and builders bring it all to life. Science is amazing!
