Book 25, Question 18 · Video
Why is it so windy at the foot of a tall building?
When wind hits a tall wall, it cannot go through, so some goes up and some is pushed down toward the street. The air also speeds up as it squeezes around corners and between buildings. This can make strong gusts in plazas. Architects test models in wind tunnels, and add trees, canopies, and curved shapes to calm the wind.
