Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. How do window-cleaning robots stick to glass?

The Big Idea

A window-cleaning robot sticks to glass using suction! A fan or pump pulls air out from under it. Then the air outside pushes the robot against the window.

Pull Air Out

Step one: pull out the air. A fan or pump pulls air out from under the robot, so there is less air between it and the glass. It is a lot like a big suction cup.

Air Pushes

Step two: air does the holding. The air outside pushes the robot against the window. That pressing makes it stick, even when it is upright.

Edges and Rope

Step three: stay safe. Sensors find the window edges so it doesn't drive off. A safety rope stops it from falling if the power goes out.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! The fan keeps the robot pressed on. A damp pad wipes the glass clean. Edge sensors find the frame. A safety rope is a backup, in case the power goes out. Together they clean the glass safely.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Safety ropes matter for robots that climb. The robot moves in a pattern to cover the whole window. Some robots can clean glass walls on tall buildings. Never lean out of a window, and let a grown-up do the setup.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Draw a plan for a window-cleaning robot. Show where the sensors that find the frame edge go. How would the robot know it had cleaned the whole window? Share your plan with someone.

Suction and sensors let a robot clean glass without falling. Science is amazing! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
