Intro
Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why do warehouses use flat robots that carry shelves?
The Big Idea
In some warehouses, flat robots slide under a tall shelf, lift it, and carry it to a worker! The shelves come to the people, instead of people walking the aisles. That saves time and steps.
Slide Under
Step one: slide under. A flat robot drives underneath a tall shelf and lifts it up a little. It can carry the shelf with all its items.
Follow the Codes
Step two: follow the path. The robots move along paths marked by codes on the floor. They read the codes to know exactly where they are.
Bring It Over
Step three: deliver. The robot brings the shelf to a worker, who picks the right item. The robot then carries the shelf back, and fetches the next one.
A Closer Look
Let's take a closer look! The flat robot is short enough to fit under a shelf. The shelf is full of items for many orders. Codes on the floor show the robot the way. At the picker, the worker takes just what is needed. Shelves come to people, not the other way around.
Quick Facts
Quick facts! Hundreds of these robots can work in one warehouse. They are designed to stop if a person steps in the way. Workers walk much less, so they pick faster. Only grown-ups should enter a real warehouse, with training.
Think Like a Scientist
Now, think like a scientist! Set up a mini warehouse with shoebox shelves. One friend is the robot, and carries a shelf to a packer. The packer picks out one item. How does moving the shelf instead of the person change the job?
