Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. What does a robot's brain actually do?

The Big Idea

A robot's brain is a small computer that follows a program! It reads numbers from the sensors and decides what to tell the motors. It does not think like a person does. It follows steps that people wrote, very fast, and it never gets confused by the same rule twice.

Read Numbers

Step one: read the numbers. Sensors turn light, touch, and distance into numbers. The brain reads those numbers many times every second, so it always knows the latest news.

Follow the Program

Step two: follow the program. A program is a list of exact instructions that people wrote. If the number says wall, the program says stop and turn. It follows each rule in order, and never skips ahead.

Tell the Motors

Step three: tell the motors. The brain sends signals that make wheels spin or an arm bend. If the program has a mistake, the robot makes that mistake too, because it cannot guess what the writer meant.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! Inputs are the numbers from sensors. The program is the list of rules. Outputs are the commands to the motors. A mistake in the rules is called a bug, and people fix bugs by testing.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! A program must be exact, because a computer cannot guess what you meant. Robot brains are really good at fast math. People write the steps, so people can fix the steps. Take turns being the robot, and move slowly.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Play the robot brain. Ask a friend to follow your instructions exactly, like take two steps forward, then turn left. Do they end up where you planned? If not, what went wrong?

A robot brain follows exact steps. Science is amazing! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
