Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why do robots keep repeating sense, think, act?

The Big Idea

Robots keep repeating sense, think, act, because the world keeps changing! After each action, the robot senses again to see what changed. That loop lets it fix mistakes and handle surprises. The robot never stops checking.

Sense

Step one: sense. The robot checks its sensors to learn what is going on right now. Maybe a wall is closer than before, or a person just stepped in the way.

Think

Step two: think. Its program compares the new numbers with its goal. It picks the best move, like slow down or turn left, using the rules people gave it.

Act

Step three: act. Motors make the move, and then the loop starts over. This happens many times a second, so the robot can react fast.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! First, sense what changed. A sensor reports the latest numbers. Next, think about what to do. Then act. And go around again. The loop is also how a self-driving toy car avoids a wall.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! A loop that feeds results back in is called feedback. Feedback helps a robot fix its own mistakes. You use the same loop when you ride a bike or catch a ball, and you do it faster than you can say it. Play catch with something soft, like a sock ball.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, give it a go! Think about catching a ball. What do you sense? What do you decide? What do you do? Write the three steps in a circle, and add an arrow back to the start. Now you have drawn a robot loop!

Sense, think, act, and repeat. Science is amazing! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
