Book 33, Question 98
How can horses sleep standing up?
Horses have a special system of tendons and ligaments in their legs that lets them lock their joints in place.
This means a horse can doze while standing without falling over. It rests in the field and can run away quickly if needed. For deep sleep, a horse will lie down for short periods. Locked legs give a horse a safe way to nap.
