Book 33, Question 97
Why do bears and people walk on flat feet while dogs walk on their toes?
Mammals walk in three ways.
Bears, raccoons, and people walk on the whole foot, which is steady. Dogs and cats walk on their toes, which gives longer strides. Horses and deer walk on the tips of their toes, which lets them run fast. Each way suits a lifestyle. The longer the stride, the faster the animal can go.
