Book 33, Question 30
Why are some baby mammals born blind and hairless?
Baby mice, rabbits, kittens, and puppies are born with their eyes closed and with little or no fur.
They cannot see or walk and depend on their mothers for warmth and milk. Being born early in their growth lets the mother have many babies at a time, and they grow quickly in the safety of a nest or den. After a few weeks, their eyes open and they are on their way.
