Why do reptiles on islands sometimes grow so big?
Islands can be quiet places with few big hunters and lots of food.
Some reptiles, like giant tortoises and Komodo dragons, grew very large on islands. With less danger, bigger bodies could survive. Other animals shrank on islands. Scientists study island animals to learn how their surroundings change their size. Islands often have their own special creatures.
