Book 32, Question 30
Why do some reptiles flatten their bodies to catch sunlight?
A flatter body has more skin facing the sun, like opening a big umbrella of heat-catching surface.
Some lizards spread their ribs and tilt toward the sun to catch every bit of warmth on a cool morning. Once they are warm, they may pull their bodies up or hide in shade. A reptile’s shape is a tool for solar heating.
