Book 32, Question 29

Why do some lizards turn darker when they are cold?

Dark colors absorb more sunlight, so some lizards darken their skin in the cool morning to heat up faster.

Later in the day, they can turn lighter to avoid soaking in too much heat. It isn’t magic, just a color change in skin cells that helps them manage warmth. This isn’t the same as camouflage color change in a chameleon.
