Book 32, Question 6
How can you tell a legless lizard from a snake?
Some lizards have lost their legs but are still lizards.
Many legless lizards have eyelids that blink, small ear openings on the sides of the head, and tails that can break off and regrow. Most snakes have none of these. Legless lizards often move more stiffly than snakes, too. Looking at the head and eyes is the best clue, and a photo is a safe way to study them.
