Book 31, Question 133
What are field marks?
Field marks are small details that tell similar birds apart.
They include eye rings, stripes above the eyes, bars on the wings, patches of color on the rump, and the shape of the beak. A field mark may be small, but it can be the key to the bird’s name. Look at the face first, then the wings, then the tail, and then the legs and feet.
