Book 31, Question 111
Why do small birds chase after a hawk or an owl?
When small birds spot a hawk or owl resting nearby, they gather and call loudly, swoop and dive, and follow it around.
This is called mobbing. The noise tells the hawk that it has been spotted, so it loses its chance to surprise anyone. Mobbing calls also warn other birds nearby. After a while, the hawk usually flies away.
