Book 31, Question 105
How do New Caledonian crows bend twigs into hooks?
New Caledonian crows live on an island in the South Pacific and are famous tool makers.
They snip a twig, remove side leaves, and bend one end into a hook. Then they poke it into holes in logs to pull out tasty grubs. Young crows learn by watching adults. Few animals other than people shape tools, so scientists study these crows closely.
