Book 31, Question 89
Why are baby birds so loud?
A hungry chick peeps and chirps to ask for food, and the hungrier it is, the louder or faster it begs.
Parents hear this and know which chick needs a meal. Some chicks even peep louder when a parent lands on the nest. The calls help the parents find the hungriest chick, so everyone gets fed. When a chick is full, it quiets down.
