Why are baby birds so loud?

What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why are baby birds so loud?

The Big Idea

Peep! Peep! Peep! Baby birds are super noisy! Why are they so loud?

Asking for Food

Step one: Asking for Food. A hungry chick peeps and chirps to ask for food. The hungrier it is, the louder or faster it begs.

Parents Listen

Step two: Parents Listen. Parents hear the begging and know which chick needs a meal. Some chicks peep even louder when a parent lands on the nest.

Quiet When Full

Step three: Quiet When Full. The calls help parents find the hungriest chick, so everyone gets fed. When a chick is full, it quiets down.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! Ask for food. Wide and bright. Listen and feed. Get quiet.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Chicks beg with their mouths wide open as well as with their voices. Hungrier chicks are louder. Full chicks go quiet. Parents bring food all day.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Make a pretend nest with paper cups. Ask a friend to be the parent. Take turns being a quiet chick and a loud chick. Who gets the snack first? Why do you think that is?

Outro
