Book 31, Question 67

Can a chick hear its parents before it hatches?

Yes.

A few days before hatching, a chick can hear sounds through the shell. Ducklings listen for their mother’s calls. Quail chicks click to each other inside their eggs, and the clicks help siblings coordinate so that they hatch at about the same time. Hearing before hatching helps chicks recognize their family’s voices when they hatch.
