Book 31, Question 66
Why do baby birds grow so fast?
A small songbird can leave the nest about two weeks after hatching.
Staying in a nest is risky, because it’s harder to hide from danger, so chicks grow quickly. They eat all day, and some can double their weight in just a few days. Their wing feathers grow from tiny blue-black tubes, called pin feathers, into full flight feathers.
