Book 30, Question 133
Why do scientists put buoys in a lake?
A buoy is a floating station with sensors that measure water temperature, wind, waves, and sometimes oxygen and chemistry.
It records data day and night and sends it to scientists by radio or satellite. Buoys can warn boaters about storms and help track algae blooms. Some lakes also have robot boats and underwater sensors that move up and down to read different depths.
