Book 29, Question 49

How do garden plants get ready for winter?

Annual plants finish their lives and leave seeds behind.

Perennials die back above ground and rest through winter with their roots alive underground. Trees and shrubs drop leaves and go dormant. Bulbs rest underground, waiting for spring. Gardeners help by clearing diseased plants and adding mulch to protect roots.
