Book 28, Question 38
Why do curlers have one slippery shoe and one gripping shoe?
In curling, the player slides from the starting block while pushing a stone.
One shoe has a slick sole, called a slider, that glides on the ice. The other has a rubbery sole, called a gripper, that pushes off. This lets the curler slide smoothly and then stop. It's a clever mix of slipping and grabbing.
