Book 28, Question 19

Why is a hockey puck flat instead of round?

A flat puck slides smoothly across the ice and doesn't roll away or bounce wildly like a ball.

It is made of hard rubber and weighs about six ounces, heavy enough to be shot fast but not too heavy for sticks. Pucks used in games are often frozen first so they bounce less. Hockey was developed in Canada, and the puck design suits the sport.
