Book 28, Question 18
Why do cricket players shine one side of the ball?
A cricket ball has a seam, and players polish one side to keep it shiny while the other gets rough.
Air moves differently over the smooth and rough sides, creating a push that makes the ball swing sideways while flying. Bowlers use this skill to fool batters. The ball can curve in surprising ways, even when there is no spin.
