Book 28, Question 11
How can a pitcher throw over 100 miles per hour?
A fast pitch uses the whole body like a whip.
The pitcher pushes off the ground with the legs, twists the hips, turns the shoulders, and swings the arm, passing energy from one body part to the next. At the end, the wrist snaps and the ball is released. The legs and hips provide most of the power, not just the arm. Pitch counts protect young arms from getting tired.
