Book 26, Question 43
Why is bamboo such a strong plant?
Bamboo is a hollow tube with solid rings called nodes along its length.
The tube shape is stiff for its weight, and the nodes act like bands that keep it from bending too much. Bamboo grows very fast and is used for scaffolding, furniture, and even bike frames. Designers study its structure to build lighter, tougher poles and towers.
