Book 25, Question 147
How do cities make streets easier for everyone to use?
Good city design helps people with different needs.
Curb cuts are sloped sidewalk edges, first made for wheelchairs, that also help strollers, carts, and bikes. Bumpy tiles warn people with low vision about crossings, and talking signals help them cross. Ramps, wide doors, and elevators make buildings open to all. This is called universal design, because it works for everybody.
