Book 25, Question 70
Why are old city pipes replaced with new materials?
Old pipes, made of cast iron, clay, or lead, can rust, crack, or leak after many decades.
New pipes made of plastic, ductile iron, or concrete resist rust and last longer. Replacing old pipes keeps water clean and prevents leaks and breaks. Cities do it a few streets at a time because it is big, careful work.
