Book 25, Question 32
Why do roads have painted lines, and what do solid and dashed lines mean?
Painted lines tell drivers where each lane is and which way traffic goes.
In Canada and the United States, yellow lines separate traffic going in opposite directions, and white lines separate lanes going the same way. A dashed line means drivers may pass or change lanes when it is safe, and a solid line means stay in your lane. Crews repaint lines often because tires and snowplows wear them away.
