Book 25, Question 22
How do builders make sure a tall building is straight?
Builders check every column with tools.
An old method uses a plumb bob, which is a weight on a string that hangs straight down because of gravity. Today they use laser levels and surveying instruments that measure to a fraction of an inch, and GPS to check the whole tower. A building may lean very slightly in wind, but it swings back.
