Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why is the Sun a star, not a planet?

The Big Idea

The Sun is a star because it makes its own light! Deep inside, it fuses hydrogen and releases gigantic energy. Planets don't do that. They shine only by reflecting sunlight, like a mirror. So stars glow from the inside, and planets borrow their light!

A Star Furnace

Step one: the Sun has a furnace. In the core, hydrogen squeezes together to make helium. This is called fusion, and it releases heat and light. That energy travels up and shines out into space.

Planets Reflect

Step two: planets reflect light. Planets have no fusion inside. They look bright in our sky only because sunlight bounces off them. Venus and Jupiter shine like stars at night, but it's just reflected sunlight!

Size and Pull

Step three: a star must be big. The Sun is so huge that over a million Earths could fit inside it. That gives it enough weight to squeeze its core hot enough for fusion.

A Closer Look

Let's meet three space neighbours! The Sun is a star, a glowing ball of hot gas. Earth is a planet, a world that orbits the Sun. The Moon is a moon, a rocky world that orbits Earth. Only the Sun makes its own light. Earth and the Moon just reflect it!

Quick Facts

Quick facts! The Sun is about 4.6 billion years old. Its surface is around 5,500 degrees Celsius. Sunlight takes about 8 minutes to reach us. Never look straight at the Sun. Ever!

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Make a list of space objects you know. Write star, planet, or moon next to each one. Ask: does it make its own light? And remember, never look at the Sun. Ask a grown-up for safe ways.

Outro

The Sun is our very own star. Science is amazing! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
