Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why can’t you see stars during the day?

The Big Idea

We can't see stars in the day because the Sun makes the sky too bright! Sunlight bounces around in our air and fills the sky with bright blue light. That glare hides the faint stars, but they are still there!

Stars Stay

Step one: the stars are still there. Stars do not switch off in the morning. They keep shining all day, high above us.

Scattered Light

Step two: the Sun lights up the air. Sunlight is made of many colours, and our air bounces the blue light all around the sky. That is why the daytime sky looks blue.

Too Bright

Step three: the glare wins. Starlight is faint, like a candle flame in a sunny room. The bright blue curtain is much stronger, so we can't spot the stars.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! Sunlight shines into our air. The air scatters it into a bright blue sky. Faint stars get lost in that glare. But the Moon, and sometimes the planet Venus, are bright enough to see.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Stars are always in the sky, even at noon. Astronauts can see stars in space, even when the Sun is shining. The Moon is often visible in the daytime. Never look at the Sun, and never use binoculars to find Venus.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! With a grown-up, look for the Moon in the blue daytime sky. Keep your eyes far away from the Sun. Can you spot it? A grown-up can help you look for bright Venus too.

Outro

Daytime stars exist, but glare hides them. Science is amazing! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
