Intro

Hi! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why should you not pocket a fossil from a park?

The Big Idea

A fossil is a clue, but a clue needs its place. The layer, the neighbors, and the spot on the map are half of the discovery. A pocket only keeps the pretty bit. Parks protect the whole story for scientists and for the next kid.

Spot and Stop

Step one: spot a shape, then stop. Finding a fossil feels amazing! But the best first step is to stop and stay on the trail. Leave the fossil right where it is. It is not going anywhere.

Photo and Landmark

Step two: take a photo, and note the spot. A picture lets you keep the clue without moving it. Notice a landmark nearby, like a big tree or a sign. That helps others find the place again. A photo is a great souvenir.

Tell a Ranger

Step three: tell a park ranger. Rangers know how to protect the park, and they can tell scientists. Then experts can study it, and you become part of the find. That is a very cool way to help science.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look at the choice! The fossil stays in its place. You take a photo. You tell a ranger. And you stay behind the fence.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Many parks make collecting illegal, and fines are real. Some beaches allow common shells but not bones. Ask first. A gift-shop replica is the take-home version. If a kid already pocketed something, take it to a ranger.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! What information vanishes when a fossil leaves its rock? Who else loses if you take it? What can you collect instead of the bone? Take a photo and draw a fossil picture in your notebook, and leave the real fossil alone.

Outro

A fossil left in place can help thousands of people learn. Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
