Intro

Hi! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. How do you think like a nature detective?

The Big Idea

A nature detective asks why, looks twice, and leaves the scene better than they found it. Clues are tracks, songs, weather, and timing, and you collect them with your eyes and a notebook, not by taking animals home. Scientists work this way too, with careful eyes and a lot of patience.

Notice

Step one: notice. Detectives stop and pay attention to a sound, a track, or a smell. A question pops up, like, what made that? Use your eyes and ears first, and keep your hands to yourself.

Look Closer

Step two: look closer. Look for clues like tracks, feathers, chewed leaves, and trail marks. Take pictures and notes, and leave everything where it was. A written note or a sketch can help you remember a clue later.

Ask Why and Check Safely

Step three: ask why, and check safely. Pick one clue and make a guess you can test later, like, will the crickets chirp faster tomorrow night? A wrong idea you can test is better than a loud guess. Every great detective learns something new from every mystery, solved or not.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look at a detective's kit! A notebook keeps your clues and questions. A light helps you see, and red light is gentle on night eyes. A map keeps you on a plan. And a grown-up makes sure everyone gets home!

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Take pictures and notes. Leave feathers, rocks, and frogs where you found them. Kind beats brave when an animal is involved. The expedition ends at the car, with a grown-up and everyone counted.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Plan your own mystery with a grown-up. Pick one clue from today. What is your best why question? What would a careful test look like tomorrow? Write it in your notebook.

Outro

You are a nature detective now, so keep wondering and keep caring. Science is amazing! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
