Which mammals have webbed feet?

What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Which mammals have webbed feet?

The Big Idea

Some mammals have webbed feet! Just like ducks! Which ones?

Otters and Beavers

Step one: Otters and Beavers. Mammals that swim a lot often have webbed feet. Otters and beavers have skin between their toes that works like a paddle.

The Platypus

Step two: The Platypus. The platypus has webbed front feet that fold back when it walks on land. That lets it dig and walk without the webbing getting in the way.

More Swimmers

Step three: More Swimmers. Muskrats and some other water-loving rodents have partly webbed feet. Webbed feet push more water backward with every kick, so they swim faster.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! Webbed. Back feet. Folding. Partly.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! A platypus folds its webbing back to dig and walk. Otters have webbed toes. Webs push more water. Beavers paddle well.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Spread your fingers wide and push through water in a bowl. Then close your fingers and push again. Which pushes more water? Dry your hand well. Webs are like closed fingers that still spread wide.
