What is a worm lizard?

What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. What is a worm lizard?

The Big Idea

It looks like an earthworm! But it's actually a reptile! What is a worm lizard?

Worm Look-Alikes

Step one: Worm Look-Alikes. A worm lizard looks like a pink earthworm but is actually a reptile. Worm lizards live underground, and many have no legs.

Built for Digging

Step two: Built for Digging. Their skin has ring-shaped folds that help them grip tunnel walls as they move. Their heads are blunt and hard for pushing through soil, and they can crawl forward or backward in their tunnels.

Not Worms or Snakes

Step three: Not Worms or Snakes. They aren't true worms or snakes. They're close relatives of lizards, and they live a hidden life in tunnels, so people rarely see them.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! Skin folds. Digs. Mostly none. Home.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Worm lizards have tiny eyes covered by skin. They're relatives of lizards. They live underground. They're not real worms.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Draw a worm lizard. Draw an earthworm next to it. Write three ways they are alike. Write two ways they differ. Which would you rather be?
