Do any reptiles glow?

What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Do any reptiles glow?

The Big Idea

Some reptiles glow! But only under special light. Do any reptiles really glow?

Glowing Turtles

Step one: Glowing Turtles. When blue or ultraviolet light shines on them, scientists have seen hawksbill sea turtles glow red and green. It was a surprise discovery on a night dive.

Glowing Bones

Step two: Glowing Bones. Some chameleons have bones in their heads that glow blue under UV light. The glowing bumps show through thin skin.

Not Making Light

Step three: Not Making Light. The animals don't make light on their own. They absorb light and give back a different color. Only trained scientists do this, so enjoy it from photos.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! Red and green. Blue bones. Absorbed. Given back.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Glow like this is called fluorescence. Hawksbills glow red and green. Chameleon bones glow blue. Enjoy it from photos.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Draw a hawksbill turtle. Add glowing red and green patches. Use bright crayons. Add a label that says glows under special light. Show it to a friend.
